"Monsters, alcohol, and abuse"

Films: Colossal (2016)

Alias: Gloria and Oscar

Type: Unknown, possibly Mystical

Location: Civilized Area

Height/Weight: That of skyscrapers.

Affiliation: Good (Gloria), Evil (Oscar)

Summary: Some say that there is a monster in all of us. One that represents either our greatest vices or our mightiest strengths. For a couple of nobodies in a small town, those monsters will change the courses of their lives, reveal more about themselves, and place the fate of Seoul, South Korea in more peril than ever before.

History: One day, two kids named Gloria and Oscar visited the local power plant in their town of Maidenhead, New England during a field trip. While they were there, they were struck by lightning, while they were also holding figures of a giant monster and a giant robot respectively. Fast forward decades later, and Gloria returns from New York to Maidenhead to get a grip on her self-destructive and alcoholic life. It just so happens that Oscar is still there, now the owner of his late dad's bar. Oh, and every time she wanders into the playground (where the plant once stood) at a certain time, that same giant monster appears all the way in Seoul, copying her every move. Oscar also happens to summon a move-copying giant robot when he goes there, too. At first, they try to have fun with it, but Gloria realizes that she can't continue to be a walking disaster if it means the safety of Seoul. But while she starts acting more responsibly, Oscar slowly begins to become drunk with power, as well as obsessive over making Gloria his and his alone...

Notable Kills: See Final Fate.

Final Fate: After Gloria realizes just how much of an abusive sociopath Oscar really is, he threatens her with being his property forever so he doesn't destroy Seoul every day. In retaliation, Gloria travels all the way to where her monster usually shows up in Seoul, has her monster summoned in Maidenhead, and as the beast, tosses Oscar into the distance before his robot can destroy any more. The kaiju then disappears as well, no doubt symbolizing how Gloria has grown beyond all of her shortcomings.

Powers/Abilities: Whatever their creators do, the kaiju will do as well.

Weakness: If the human dies, the kaiju is no more. That, and they are only active for a few hours per day.

Scariness Factor: 3.5-Usually, seeing such titans towering above all would be terrifying instantly. But Gloria only ever destroys things by accident, and when she realizes her mistake, she has her monster apologize to all of Seoul and win the world's trust in the process. It's Oscar that's the real threat. Not only is he a gaslighting SOB who throws a fit when someone is better than him, but his avatar is an intimidating cycloptic mecha that wouldn't be out of place as a member of the Decepticons. And remember, he sees wiping out countless humans as a way to blow off steam. So you can imagine how we smiled when Gloria tossed him all the way into oblivion at the end.

Trivia: -Rather infamously, this film was struck with a lawsuit in 2015 when people saw too many similarities with 2014's "Godzilla". While the filmmakers initially didn't help their case much at first, we concur that the end result was worth it. And ironically enough, this film's composer, the exceptionally talented Bear McCreary, would go on to do the score for "Godzilla: King of the Monsters" in 2019.

-The quote that Gloria makes in monster form, reading in Korean "I'm sorry. It was a mistake. It won't happen again.", was taken word-for-word from a quote by King Juan Carlos de Borbón, who was at the moment feeling rather bad after a botched elephant hunt in Botswana.
